Betty Hester Bass

Mrs. Betty H. Hester Bass, 93 a resident of 144 Coventry Drive, Oxford passed Monday, July 2, 2012 at her home.

She was born June 15, 1919 in Oxford, North Carolina where she attended the Granville County Schools. She was a member of the Olive Grove Baptist Church and was a House Wife. Betty Jane raised many children, black and white and loved everyone whom she came in contact with. She loved her hats and dresses, many people would call her the “Hat Lady”.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel Lee Hester and also the late Grover Bass, Sr.

Betty Jane raised brothers, sisters, grandchildren with tender loving care. She was a very nurturing person who trusted God, raising “Joyce Slaughter (Robert) whom she called her white baby”, Annie Lee Hicks, Bishop James Hester (Betty), Her little buddy Commander Retired Sgt. Major Larry D. Hester (Karen), Robert Thomas (Comilla), John and Bobbie Harris.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her children, Geneva Allen, Randolph Hester and William T. Hester all of Boston, MA, Lillian Wilkerson, Sarah Curtis, Jimmie Hester (Judy), Grover Bass, Jr. all of Oxford,NC; Herbert Bass (Tina) and Joseph Bass both of Raleigh, NC.; one sister, Emma Lee Bass of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Luther Harris Jr(Hassie Bell) of Oxford, NC, Marshall Ray Harris (Rosa) of Raleigh, NC; 69 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 29 great-great grandchildren, 9 great great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Annie Lee Hicks, Bertha Hester, Nannie Mae Hester; special friends, Tucker Daniel, Roosevelt Young and Faymer Cook, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Betty Jane was preceded in death by children, RT, Andrew Lee, Daniel Jr, Luther, Lou Ella, 3 grandchildren, four brothers, 3 sisters.

Her favorite song she loved to sing was “I’m going to stay under the Blood”

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 2:00 PM at New Hope Granville Baptist Church with eulogy by Elder James William. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday at the Funeral Home.

Viewing will be from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM Friday.
